Angels,
Are you the creations of God?
Angels,
Are you the messengers of Heaven?

Angels,
Are you the bringers of good news?
Angels,
Are you the desirers of great peace?

Who made you with such beauty?
Who gave such charm?
To whom do you offer your praise?
To the Maker of the heavens and the earth!

I know that God has surrounded me with angels
To protect, guide and grant me peace
Though unseen, unheard and unfathomable
They are there as gifts from Him

How do I know this?
How can I be sure that God cares?
Where is the evidence of God's gift of love?
I turn to my mom!

This poem is written to remember God's love and also for my mum who is still in Singapore on Mothers' Day' 2010.
It was also to celebrate the end of the first year for My Angel Now! which was started as a tribute to my mum.

Turning the coaster into an Afghan square

I posted the pattern for a 12-petal coaster a few days and I was going to make another for the Knit-A-Square project today. Unfortunately, my browser refused to worked, so I was not able to search for another pattern to make. Yeah... I have an obsession of making a different pattern every time. ;p

So I decide to turn the coaster into an 8" Afghan Square. The pattern is posted below.

12 Petals Coaster

Use the needle appropriate for the yarn. The gauge is not important. Vary the colors as you wish.

CA: Lime Yellow
CB: Pink
CC: Blue

Tips for color change: I don't like to weave in end at the end of the project because I just want to be done. So whenever I start or end a yarn, I hold it close to the stitch to be worked and hide the yarn end in there over the next few stitches. The little tail can then be cut without having to do another needle weaving.

Terms used:

ch: chain
st: stitch
sl st: Slip stitch
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
hdc: half double crochet
yo: yarn over

Special stitches used:

dc2tog: double crochet two together
*yo, insert hook through st to be worked, yo, pull through st, yo, pull through two loops*, repeat * - *, pull through all three loops

Petal st: Each petal is worked over four stitches as follows.
ch 2, dc in same st, dc2tog in the next two sts, dc in the next st, ch 2, sl st into same st

FLO and BLO: Front loop only and back loop only.
This means the stitch is only worked into the front or the back loop of stitch below instead of both loop. Front loop is the one closer to you.

---> To begin, ch 5 and sl st into first st to make a circle or used magic circle

Round 1: (With CA) ch 1, 12 sc into circle. Join with sl st to 1st sc of round. (12 sc)

Round 2: ch 2, dc2tog into the same stitch, ch 1, [dc2tog into next st, ch1] around. Join with sl st to top of first dc2tog. (12 dc2tog & 12 ch1 sp). End CA.

Round 3: sl st into ch1 sp. ch 1, hdc into same st, ch 2, [dc2tog into same ch 1 sp and next ch 1 sp, ch 2] around. Join with sl st to hdc. (12 dc2tog & 12 ch 2 sp)

Round 4: ch 2, dc into same st, 3 dc into ch 2 sp, [dc into top of dc2tog, 3 dc into ch 2 sp] around. Join with sl st to first dc. (48 dc)

Round 5: (Working with FLO) [Petal st, sl st into next st] around. Join with sl st. (12 petals). End CB.

Round 6: (Working with BLO) (With CC) sl st into any back loop of Round 4. ch 2, [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc into same st (first corner made). dc in next st, hdc in next 3 st, dc in next st] around. Join with sl st to first dc. You should have a square at the end of this round.

Round 7 onwards: ch 2, dc into every st, [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] into each ch 2 corner sp. Join with sl st to first dc. Make as many rounds as needed.

Final round (optional): ch 1, sc into every st, 3 sc into every ch 2 corner.

Finishing:
Cut thread, fasten off and weave in ends. Cut off loose threads and it’s all done!
